GHANA’S PARTICIPATION AT THE CHINA INTERNATIONAL IMPORT EXPO

Ghana participated in the maiden China International Import Expo (CIIE) which was held in Shanghai from 5th to 10th November, 2018.  The Expo attracted more than 5000 companies from 190 countries and territories.

Ghana’s delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry (MOTI), Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah.  Other members of the delegation included the private sector, Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), COCOBOD, Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), among others.

Ghana Business and Investment Forum

The Business and Investment Forum was held on 6th November, 2018 in the margins of the Expo.  Presentations were made by top government officials from Ghana and China on various topics of interest to an audience made up of Chinese businessmen and women and their Ghanaian counterpart. 

Among the seasoned speakers were the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in charge of Trade, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Edward Boateng, Deputy Chief Executives and Deputy CEOs from GEPA, GIPC, GFZA, Economic Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Accra. 

Samples of quality and well packaged Ghanaian goods were displayed to afford the Chinese audience the opportunity to have first hand information of the products as well as interact with their producers.

Ghana Country Pavilion

Ghana’s pavilion was unique with its design and construction which depicted Ghana’s rich and diverse culture and heritage.  An average of 300 visitors visited the Pavilion each day during the period.  A sizeable number of visitors expressed the interest to either buy some of the products or to be agents in China.  Contacts of both exhibitors and potential partners were exchanged.

The most sought after products included Sheabutter, Coconut Oil, alcoholic beverages from GIHOC and Kasapreko, soaps, and cocoa products and derivatives.
